Custom Android Tablets Offered to Publishers by TigerDirect

Systemax, Inc. has announced that its subsidiary, consumer electronics retailer TigerDirect, has partnered with Android (News - Alert) tablet manufacturer ARCHOS to offer publishers customized tablet computers for their readers.

Called PubTab, the system boasts a 10-inch tablet, camera and CPU running the Android platform, and also offers full logistics capabilities including order fulfillment, customer and technological support.

“The launch of PubTab highlights our unique ability to serve the B2B and B2C marketplace and utilizes our strong vendor relationships, state-of-the-art call centers and extensive logistics capabilities,” said Richard Leeds, Systemax’s chairman and CEO. “We are pleased to have partnered with Archos, as they are a proven and reliable manufacturer for this unique solution.”

Philadelphia Media Network Inc., owner and publisher of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and was first company to offer a discounted Android tablet packaged to subscribers, which includes four pre-loaded applications that displayed digital versions of the publisher’s two newspapers and web site to subscribers.
