The Benefits of 3D printers for Startups and New Businesses

As technology gets progressively faster and more efficient, so do our expectations. As a client, you expect everything to meet its deadline and as fast as possible. People don’t have the same patience that they used to.

But as a startup or a new business owner, can you keep up with these expectations? Can you deliver new products, designs and ideas as fast as your clients send you requests? Without a 3D printer, chances are you can’t.

Free to Design

If you have a product in the making and you’re still in the early stages of designing it, you’ll be going through several copies of prototypes. This is a natural part of designing any new product. You’ll need to physically see it and hold it or even use it to get the whole idea of how the finalized product will look.

But this process requires a lot of time. First, you have to send your design schematics to a third party manufacturer, who has the machinery and equipment to create a prototype copy of your product.

They have to follow your instructions to a tee, otherwise, you may end up with a faulty prototype. This means you’ll need to relay the exact instructions, making sure to account for every tiny detail. Once they have it printed, they’ll need to ship it back to you, which may take a few days by itself. And when it reaches you, upon testing the prototype you see that there was a mistake in the manufacturing, so you have to send it back and go through the entire process all over again.

Or just have a 3D printer ready. With the convenience of having one in your office or workshop, you have the convenience of going crazy with your designs, since you know that there is greater agency over how the product will be printed out. You have the opportunity to design every one of its tiniest features and details, knowing that the manufacturing of the prototype is in your hands. You have the freedom to design it however you want.

Saving a Lot of Time and Money.

Even a cheap 3D printer can save you a lot of money and time that you would spend having to hire a third party manufacturing service to produce your designs. All those material, workforce and shipping costs will mount up after a few test versions of your product.

But if you own a 3D printer in your office, you can produce your own prototypes much faster, with less money, since you won’t have to pay someone else to do it, or for the shipping costs. This is perfect for a startup or a new business that just made its way into the market. Of all other companies, they can use a 3D printer the most, as it’ll help them with their product design phase, lifting the startup or business off its feet.

3D printers are not just a luxury item for certain exclusive companies who can afford them. Cheap 3D printers are very easy to come by and they come in all kinds of variants, depending on the kind of projects you’ll be working on and what you need them to do. Having one in your office or workshop could boost your productivity quite a bit and help you speed up the process of growing your business.

With how accessible 3D printers have gotten, there’s really no reason to outsource your designs to other manufacturers any longer. Creating and designing can now be closer than ever before.
