Transform your House into a Home Office with these 4 Tips

The second Corona wave just kicked in and it seems like we're stuck at home for a little longer. That also means that we need to work from home as much as possible. Therefore, it’s important that you have a nice place at home to do your work: a so-called home office. Your home office does not have to be large, but it’s nice to have a place of your own where you can start and finish your workday. In this article, we give you 4 tips on how to transform your house into a little home office.

1.Sufficient (day)light

It sounds logical, but many home offices do not have enough (day)light. A shame, because sufficient light makes you more productive, whether it’s during the day or evening. Preferably try to locate your desk in front of a window. Do you work on a laptop or computer screen? Then ensure that you do not sit with your back towards the window as the light will reflect on the screen. In addition, this can be distracting when you’re in a video call. It’s also important to have enough light for those dark winter days. So make sure you buy a good desk lamp!

2.Make room for a laptop and power supply

Your home office does not have to be large, but at least make sure that you have enough space for a laptop. Make sure that your desk is near an electrical outlet. Are there little to no electrical outlets near your desks? Then use super glue (Dutch: secondelijm) to easily glue a power strip to the bottom of your desk. This way you never run out of power.

3.Keep your home office essentials within reach

Make sure to keep your home work supplies close at hand. Getting up every now and then is good for your physical health, but it also causes you to lose your concentration. That is why it’s handy to have a desk with drawers where you can put all your necessary supplies. What necessities should you consider? Think of pens, paper, chargers, snacks and disinfectants (Dutch: ontsmettingsmiddelen) to clean your keyboard and mouse.

4.Style your home office to match your interior

A home office sounds a bit boring, but you can make it a cosy and happy place with just a few minor tweaks. Make sure to keep your desk clean and basic, as too many frills can be distracting. Instead, buy a nice desk plant to add some colour to the room and/or a scented candle to light up the room. Plants provide oxygen that boosts your productivity and scented candles improve your mood, thinking and well-being. So next to stylisch, plants and scented candles are also very functional.

We hope that with these 4 tips you can create your own cosy and functional home office.
