2019's Top Health Insurance Plans

The best health insurance for you will depend on a wide range of factors, including where you live, your income, your current health status, the size of your family, your age, gender, race, and other demographic factors. Health insurance is very personalized, with prices and options being different from one person to the next. Despite the subjective nature of determining which health insurance plans are the best, some companies have stood out in specific areas.

Kaiser Permanente stands out as one of the best companies offering a Health Savings Plan (HSA). An HSA allows you to pay into a health savings account pre-tax, and then that money can be used to cover medical expenses not covered by your health insurance plan. For example, the money can be used to pay co-pays, prescriptions, or balances not otherwise covered by your insurance. Your insurance may cover up to a certain amount for glasses or braces, and then you can use your health savings account to pay the balance for those items.

BlueCross/BlueShield has made a name for itself by having one of the largest provider networks. Too often, people are forced to switch doctors when they change insurance providers because their insurance no longer covers their doctor. Another common situation is that people are forced to get medical services at a hospital that is not convenient for them or not their first choice due to the hospital being in their network of providers. Having one of the largest provider networks dramatically increases the chances that the doctors and hospitals you want to go to will accept your insurance.

Molina Healthcare has created a niche in wellness care. They take the philosophy that if people are focused on their wellness, they will be less likely to need ongoing medical care for problems while many insurances will limit tests or doctor visits that are not seen as “medically necessary” Molina rewards people for going to check-ups, losing weight, stopping smoking, and other activities that will reduce their overall health risks. So if preventative health is essential to you, Molina is a health insurance company you should look into.

There is one health insurance company called Highmark that is very highly rated for the plans they offer, their provider network, and the different options for co-pays and deductibles. They have great wellness programs that nutrition, exercise, quitting smoking, and mental health. They also provide their members with health education programs and vision and hearing services. The downside is that they are not a national company, and only residents of the eastern states can get on their health care plans.

For many, their top concern is finding affordable health insurance due to limited budgets and other living expenses. Health Insurance offers online quotes for short-term and long-term insurance for people that need to know what their options are for both plans and prices. Their website provides a personalized breakdown of options. They also offer price comparisons, so you can look at what you are getting and what your options are for other plans.

While these are some of the best health insurance plans in 2019, finding the best plan for you will take some one-on-one research. You can start by going to the Health Insurance website and getting a price comparison for multiple health insurance plans. From there, you can narrow down your search to consider your specific needs or preferences for your overall health care. This may include your preferred doctors and specific coverage, such as vision or dental. While that may mean finding a more expensive plan, not having the coverage you need will be more costly in the long-run.
