The Top Search Engine Optimization Predictions For 2019

How many times do we turn to a search engine to get answers? How many times do we predict that a search engine such as Google (News - Alert) will deliver the right result? Search engines have become relevant in our lives, because they help us find information, discover new things, and search for products and services.

If you have a business which you would like your consumers to be familiar with, you need to be at the top of the search results. Many industries leverage the use of SEO for their digital marketing, so you need a good digital agency to assist you. Since SEO is always changing, it is challenging to fully optimise it for your company or brand. We are already well into 2019,  and if you are looking for a good SEO strategy, here are the top predictions you should jump on.

#1. This year, there will fewer clicks.

Are you noticing fewer visitors to your site than before? This year many  SEO professionals are already feeling the pinch of few clicks. Search engines,  such as Google, have begun downplaying traditional keyword searches. It is very common to find that Google is displaying search results without the need to provide many keywords. There are two main reasons for this.

  1. More ‘Search Engine Result Pages’ features  - Google will feature more search results on a single page.
  2. Aggressive Google words – Google will ensure that sites that over optimize, and have keywords irrelevant to the content, are not featured prominently. You will find more pages on Google search results that come from authoritative sites with substantial content.

#2. Google Voice will be more popular.

The functionality of voice search assistants is improving. Presently, Siri is the most used voice assistant in the world. It is estimated that by 2020 almost all search results will be conducted using voice search. Research has found that using voice search will eliminate the need for screens, because you do not need to scroll through search results.

What is voice search?

Voice search gives users the ability to speak into devices, when they are searching for something, as opposed to typing keywords. It is through the use of audio technology that voice search will recognise what the users are saying, and search for that particular result. Even though it has been around for some time, the popularity of voice search is increasing. Voice-to-text and speech dialing has been used for years.

How does voice search optimise SEO?

As mentioned earlier, it is estimated that half of all searches will be done through voice search. For this reason, a search engine such as Google Voice is emphasizing voice search.  Although it may seem that voice search SEO is similar to traditional SEO, there are some factors which may affect voice search SEO, that may not affect traditional SEO.  However, both of them still work to provide the best user experience, and to rank websites with quality content. If you are looking to balance voice search SEO and traditional SEO then here are four tips that will help you.

  1. Always ensure that your website responds quickly to searches.
  2. When you are writing content ensure that you write it as you speak it.
  3. Pay attention to local searches
  4. Include a featured snippet.

#3. Mobile search domination.

Statistics show that 52.2% of all searching is done through mobile devices. In March 2018 Google started a migration for all sites to mobile first indexing. This means that the search engine uses mobile devices to run an index and rank your website. However, the use of mobile first indexing does not only apply to mobile devices, but also some desk versions. Once your website migrates then, Google will be using mobile to rank it. This means that 2019 is the time to fully optimise your website, if you want to be at the top of the search results. Here are some things to consider.

  1.  Switch to mobile index as soon as possible.
  2. Crawl the pages of your website using mobile data.
  3. Ensure that your mobile loading page speed is at its maximum.
  4. Always review your pages to ensure they offer the best user experience.

#4. Backlinks will still be relevant in ranking.

Since the introduction of UX, many SEO professionals think  they will no longer need to use backlinks. It is important to note that backlinks are still a crucial  part of Google's algorithm.  Backlinks will help determine which pages deserve to be ranked first in the search results pages.

Get your brand seen and known with great digital marketing.
