Should You Run a Home Business from the Cloud?

Computing in the cloud has become commonplace and many consumers are unaware of just how many systems involve this remote and redundant virtual technology.  While often in used when referring to bespoke in-house IT solutions and frameworks intended to be used in conjunction with larger corporations, the fact of the matter is that the home-based business can take full advantage of the associated advantages.   However, some entrepreneurs are still on the fence and they are hesitant to migrate into the cloud.  This is often caused by a lack of understanding of how such systems function or the inability to appreciate their associated windfalls.  Let us address this topic in two sections in order to quell any misgivings as well as to fully comprehend what is in store.

The Technical Benefits of Cloud-Based Home Business Solutions

There are many concerns which need to be faced by even the smallest home-based business; not the least of which is reliability.  What happens if a website crashes and the initial coding is lost or corrupted.  Perhaps more importantly, what would occur in the event that the data of important customers is accidentally deleted and it cannot be restored?  Assuming that the home-based business owner does not possess a technical background in the world of IT, he or she would be in big trouble.

Cloud-based e-commerce platforms have done away such such issues thanks to their superior sense of redundancy.  In the event that a system is corrupted or a network failure occurs, all software is backed up within a virtual environment.  In other words, cloud systems provide an extra sense of redundancy that would not be possible with legacy software packages.  Still, this is only the beginning.

Many individuals who decide to start their business from home are under the misconception that they will be forced to deal with web hosting solutions such as WordPress.  While WordPress is indeed an excellent tool to establish a functional site, the fact of the matter is that it was not specifically designed to tackle the modern needs associate with home-based sales and similar forms of e-commerce.  Many of their add-ons are rather generic in nature and those which are efficient are often attached to hefty monthly fees alongside similar forms of commission.

Cloud systems have developed fully malleable templates which can be directly integrated into an active platform.  Not only will this avoid the frustration associate with a time-consuming (and confusing) software migration, but the website itself is not likely to suffer from a significant amount of downtime.  Furthermore, customer service solutions are always provided in the event that a problem or question arises.  The majority of generic e-commerce solutions that are off-of-the-shelf architecture are unable to offer this type of expert assistance on short notice.  Other products are associated with expiration dates; making such help impossible to obtain after a certain date has been crossed.

While the aforementioned benefits cannot be denied, it is important to keep in mind that not all e-commerce cloud systems have been created equally. Some are naturally more effective than others.  Let us now take a look at some parameters which should be considered before fully committing to a specific bundle.

Concerns to Address in Advance

The best cloud-based packages offer intuitive and insightful tools.  They will not require a great deal of previous coding experience (if any).  Features such as drag-and-drop functionality as well as detailed tutorials are perfectly suited for those with little experience or who have just recently taken a foray into the world of home-based sales.  This is a massive windfall, as the learning curve associated with out-of-the-box architecture can be profound; costing a startup time as well as money.

In the same respect, keep an eye out for systems that are able to be upgraded or even downgraded as might be necessary in the future.  it does little good to purchase a bundle which lacks the flexibility required to deal with the needs of a growing business.  Once again, the best in the industry offer such a feature as standard.  It is still wise to take a look at the extent of this modularity as well as if you will be required to pay extra for such upgrades.

As mentioned within the lest section, customer service is paramount if you hope to get the most out of any cloud-based e-commerce platform.  You should be presented with a number of contact options such as:

- A dedicated email address.

- A live telephone number.

- Online support such as a chatbot.

In addition, it is best to choose providers which pair you with an expert who is familiar with the needs of your business as opposed to a generic representative.  This will enable you to tackle any problems in an efficient manner while ensuring that you always have access to important data.
