News from Ghana: 7 Top Artists who lost at the 2018 VGMA Awards

Pomp and color were the highlights of the annual 2018 Vodafone (News - Alert) Ghana Music Awards held on Saturday, April at the Accra International Conference Center. News from Ghana confirms that it was an inauspicious event that will go down in the memory of Ghanaians for many years to come. We should give a hand to the organizers ho did a good job except for some minor controversies that were resolved.

It was also a night of shock and surprises as some of the top artists who had been nominated under different categories failed to win some of the awards. But at the end of the day they all were winners and did Ghana proud.

News from Yen Ghana has compiled a list of the night’s biggest losers at the VGMA 2018:

1. Patapaa

The singer went in the event confident that his hit song ‘one corner’ which had become an instant household song would bag the award for most popular song of the year. His fans were also enchanted to see their star walk to the podium and collect the award. Luck seemed not to be on his side especially when the most popular song went to Fancy Gadam’s ‘total cheat.’ The criteria for voting were purely based on public votes.

2. King Promise

It was a moment of revelation and truth when the sta King Promise failed to bag even an award despite having hit songs in the year. His name was trolled over social media with people claiming he did not push for him to get voted for. It was rather a huge disappointment for him and the fans. Better luck awaits him next year at the event.

3. Gifty Osei

Mimcked by his fans as ‘Empress one,’ the gospel musician ranked high on the list of favorites to pull a victory during the event. On several occasions she has been quoted aiming for a Grammy award, but before that time comes he has to live with the fact that he went home empty handed.

4. Shatta Wale

He was arguably one of the biggest losers of the night despite bagging the collaboration of the year award. For a star of his caliber and influence over social media, he was to take home more of the awards given his long list of bangers. His ambition of winning the Artiste of the Year was cut short quickly. This time he had to eat humble pie and be contended with the collaborative effort for the award.

5. Joyce Blessing

Her claim to fame song ‘Boot 4 Boot’ did not have the vibe to lay hands on an award. Although her previous songs had done magnificently well, this time they were not cut enough to win one of the awards.

6. Kumi Guitar

Before the event, the star was going in on other artists to the point of releasing a ‘diss track’ to Stonebwoy after the scandal between the star and label Zylofon Music. However, his antics did not win him any award at the event. He was in a very competitive category and all in all the best man won in the end.

7. MzVee

Well the young and talented star has still miles ahead of her career to cover despite having the attention of everyone in the industry. This was a big miss for her especially with the high hopes her fans had on social media. She has to go back to the drawing board and figure out where she went wrong. But there is always a chance for her in the coming year.
