EZtax takes Complexity out of Tax-related Operations Challenges

By Peter Bernstein, Senior Editor

There is a very old saying that the only sure things in life are death and taxes, and when it comes to being a business these days in a connected world, while survival is job number No. 1, like it or not taking care of complying with the tax rules and regulations accurately and efficiently along with worrying about security is not that far behind as a priority.  In this regard, Overland Park, KS EZtax, (formerly BillSoft (News - Alert)), might be worth putting on a list of solutions providers worth interacting about your indirect tax challenges.

At the recent ITEXPO East, EZtax CEO, Tim Lopatofsky, sat down with TMC (News - Alert) Group Editorial Director, Erik Linask to discuss the tax solutions market’s changing landscape and how EZtax helps makes it easy for companies to automate tax-related business processes and comply with the myriad of regulations impacting their operations.

For those not familiar with EZtax, as the company highlights, virtually every transaction triggers an indirect tax—all of which EZtax handles. It products and tools calculate domestic and global indirect taxes in the areas of Sales and Use, VAT, GST (News - Alert) and Telecommunications taxes in over 100 countries and 70,000 taxing jurisdictions.  Their solutions include tax calculation, tax filing, tax geo-coding, tax reference, product bundling and tax customization software solutions in licensed, SaaS (News - Alert) and batch environments.  Plus, they provide tax and software consulting services.

After summarize the recent name change, done as a clarification the company was a “tax company with a billing company name,” he outlined why EZtax has been gaining significant market traction.  He explained that:  “I you really are not in this business it does take away from your core business if you try to do it yourself.  We offer solutions people can integrate with their systems so it just works as part of their operations and we offer sourced solutions. “

When asked about what is the growth, Lopatofsky noted that while overall company growth is 16 percent, “Compliance grew 69 percent from January to January.

As the numbers above illustrate, if you are a global services provider, all of the administrative and legal niceties of keeping track of what taxes are for all of those jurisdictions and assuring that your company is in compliance with local and national laws is daunting to say the least.  It is why EZtax likes to say its mission is to make taxing less taxing.  As importantly, as Lopatofsky said, while taxes are always going to be one of life’s certainties, as with so many other things letting those with expertise handle the operational complexities so your organization can concentrate its time and efforts on what it does just makes a lot of business sense.
