Having Trouble Finding a Last Minute Valentines Date?

By Ashley Caputo, TMCnet Web Editor

If you don’t have a Valentine for tomorrow, you’re not alone, as there are (probably) many other people who don’t have a designated date. However, there is still time –and hope – to find a last minute date with the new speed dating video app, Flikdate.

We know what you’re thinking – dating sites are lame, fake and is a place where predators hangout. But Flikdate is unlike the typical platform of sites like Match.com and eHarmony. The difference is that Flikdate uses one of the most recently developed and widely accepted forms of communication: videoconferencing.

Users that are searching through databases full of photos, and even instant messaging, are all informal ways for users to communicate nowadays, and usually, lack any ability to form an emotional connection. Typically, people are led to believe that this is because they are strangers; however, when watching a movie, television show or talk show, despite the fact the actors or host are strangers, users are able to form a connection, and even fondness, with the characters on TV.

This whole concept of forming a connection through video is the philosophy behind Flikdate, and is exactly what makes it stand out from the online dating community.

Instead of spending time navigating and reading while searching through typical dating sites, Flikdate contains no profiles or (possibly) made up facts and photos. Rather, each user gets up to only 90 seconds to show off their character and give viewers a quick peek into their personality.

Flikdate is like many of the other dating programs that have been developed for mobile devices, one of the most recent apps being one that was designed to help create relationships specifically in the workplace, which is one of the more comfortable outlets for users since they work in the same office.

“Flikdate removes all barriers to dating,” says Flikdate CEO Nick Bicanic, “People can flirt to their heart’s desire wherever and whenever they want, but there are rules. We take safety very seriously, and anyone behaving inappropriately can be banned from the service indefinitely with a single tap of the Perv Alert button.”

Aside from the dating app designed for work environments, most of the other sites have severe safety risks, as they allow users to disclose personal information that thousands of other users can see.
