Swordfish Financial to Focus on Digital Content Distribution Investments

By Tara Seals, TMCnet Contributor

Swordfish Financial, a Minnesota corporation focused on developing strategic investment opportunities into the future of smart technology, has revealed its new push into digital content distribution.

The firm sees big growth opportunities in digital content, especially in the streaming media and over-the-top (OTT) arenas. "The rise of tablets and smart TVs are feeding this growth. This should be the beginning of a trend regarding Internet-connected ecosystem devices," said Clark Ortiz, SFI's CEO.

One encouraging evolution is the fact that Netflix posted gains in U.S. subscribers and earnings in the fourth quarter that exceeded investor expectations, followed by a stock valuation that jumped 42 percent to $146.86 per share Thursday of last week. Netflix also added two million domestic subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2012, reaching 27 million streaming subscribers in the United States and managing to turn an analyst-surprising profit of $8 million on $945 million in revenue.

Ortiz said that Netflix’s surprise results are indicative of a market thick with new opportunity. "Our efforts into the streaming entertainment space could prove great ROI on many fronts," he said. "Netflix has cracked the mystery of consumer interest combined with ease of delivery for media streaming. Our present investment position has focused on streaming general entertainment of live media channels from around the world delivered to the home, mobile and tablets."

Digital content distribution could be the next wave of consumer commodity, the company believes. To that end, the company recently announced its intent to acquire iPoint Television, an IPTV media entertainment company, for an undisclosed amount. iPoint Television, also known as iPoint TV, holds development licenses from Apple (News - Alert), Android, Google, Roku, Kindle and other smart devices. It has developed and launched mobile apps for the past two years.
