Spotify: Making Friends through Music

By Ashley Caputo, TMCnet Web Editor

Ah, with so many ways to connect us with old and new friends, it’s getting difficult for people to choose whether they want to use Social TV or social networking to engage in new topics and trends. With the release of Spotify’s (News - Alert) new service, you are now able to meet people through anything music related, right on your mobile device.

Spotify is a digital music service where you can access millions of songs, create collections and share your favorite songs through social media. But with its new innovational feature moosify, the ability to connect people through music is taken to a more personal level.

Moosify is a new service for meeting people based on their music choices and collections that are stored in Spotify. For each artist or song, people are grouped together based on whether they like it or not, and allows you to share your music collections with the community based on your choices. Users have the option of publically displaying their profile, which lists their personal activities and characteristics, along with emphasizing the initial connection factor: music.

The app also provides a personal map where you can highlight your top choices of venues, restaurants, coffee shops and clubs that host your favorite music selections. Although this might sound unsafe to share in a public domain, moosify never reveals your exact location. Rather, it is just a way to prompt people with the same likes to share and discover new music experiences.

On a daily basis, initial engagements and conversations are sparked by simple commonalities, like music. Instead of using dating services or music blogs, moosify has created a new platform for music lovers that can help bring a larger population of people together. When used safely and creatively, moosify can be incorporated into the music world to create long lasting relationships and closer ties to the community.

A Spotify monthly subscription, ranging from free to $9.99, can be purchased through its website or the Apple Android (News - Alert) app store.
