What Santa Won't Be Bringing This Year

By Brittany Walters-Bearden, TMCnet Contributor

Holiday must-have tech wish lists have been coming out in abundance. Topping the lists are Microsoft (News - Alert) Surface tablets, new Apple products, and the Kindle Fire HD. Notably missing from anyone’s wish list is the Nintendo Wii U. Noticing this unusual trend, www.CouponCodes4u.com decided to investigate further, conducting a survey of 2,105 American consumers.

Of the respondents, 18 percent said that they had already purchased the device. 59 percent of those respondents expressed disappointment with the system for a variety of reasons—39 percent were dissatisfied thanks to “bricking” resulting from unsuccessful firmware updates, 34 percent cited “sluggish onboard memory” in the 8 GB version as the cause of their disappointment, 31 percent cited long firmware updates, and 25 percent noted that it was “difficult to play the new games” with the reversed dual-stick controller buttons.

Whatever the case is, it seems as though there is very little interest in the system, even with all of the gadget shopping madness that the holiday season brings, and what little interest has been generated has resulted in disappointment. The results of this survey can help Nintendo tweak the system in order to better serve their loyal gamers.

CouponCodes4u.com’s chairman, Mark Pearson, expressed his surprise; “As the company is the forefather of the electronic game movement, it comes as a bit of a surprise to see so many consumers voicing their disappointment and frustration with the new console device.”

Despite this, he said that the company has experienced more than the usual “teething problems” facing long firmware updates, causing some of the devices to be rendered useless because of bricking. As a result, he says, “it is no wonder that consumers are increasingly annoyed.”

Hopefully, the next system released from Nintendo will be one that will satisfy consumers and will be mentioned in every child’s letter to Santa.
