SIP trunking is a hot and rapidly growing area for enterprise networking, especially as it relates to Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync space, notes Charles Studt, vice president of product management at IntelePeer . That, and the rise of the cloud, is why the company today is announcing that it’s added to its SIP trunk product.

In the past, IntelePeer (News - Alert) had different packaging options, including a per user fee license option, so it would align with how an organization would pay for Microsoft Lync. Now, IntelePeer has added new features into the bundle, key among those features are two Microsoft-certified security types.

Some companies are in betas with the new security features, which secure the media as well as the signaling, and leverage public keys and 4k encryption. 

Studt says the cloud is now in prime time, but that some enterprises are still concerned about the security of their media. This kind of solution, he says, will give them the added comfort level they seek.

In other recent news from IntelePeer, the company has teamed with 911 Enable (News - Alert) to automatically provide emergency location information for Microsoft Lync SIP trunking users.  This means emergency personnel can accurately and quickly pinpoint the location of roaming users via software on a laptop, smartphone, or other IP device.
