Mobile Cloud Provider AnyPresence Lands $5.5 Million in Funding

By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Cloud Computing

Cloud-based mobile platform provider AnyPresence has raised $5.5 million in Series B funding, which was led by Grotech Ventures, an early investor in LivingSocial (News - Alert). Existing investor Kinetic Ventures also participated in the funding round.

Company officials said AnyPresence has already exceeded its 2012 revenue targets, building a “strong case” for additional investment to help the company meet demand for its mobile platform-as-a-service solution.

The new funding will help the Reston, Va.-based company accelerate mobile projects for its customers and expand into new markets, according to Anirban Chakrabarti, CEO and co-founder. AnyPresence currently works with customers in the healthcare, communications and services sectors.

“We have built a business-class solution that dramatically reduces the time-to-market for deploying mobile apps and plan to use this funding to invest in product development, sales growth, and ensuring the success of our customers,” Chakrabarti said in a company statement.

Drawing on their collective experience with Siebel Systems, Oracle (News - Alert), and SAP, the AnyPresence management team launched a mobile platform-as-a-service designed to help businesses overcome the obstacles of building, deploying, and maintaining mobile apps.

Company officials said the AnyPresence cloud service includes a Web-based designer for cross-platform app development and a mobile “backend-as-a-service,” with the ability to connect to a variety of data sources within the enterprise. The run-time components can be compiled and deployed instantly to scalable cloud infrastructure, company officials said.

The cloud-based mobile platform also includes pre-built mobile app templates to further accelerate mobile projects for consumer or employee-facing needs.

“We are very excited about the potential of the AnyPresence platform and the initial success they are experiencing,” said Lawson DeVries, general partner at Grotech Ventures. “We believe that the combination of this strong team and this capital infusion will be able to advance the company’s technology lead and generate market momentum.”
