Barracuda Networks: Focused on Security

By Michelle Amodio, TMCnet Contributor

Interop 2012 featured some of the best and brightest in IT professionals from all over. Barracuda Networks (News - Alert) made a presence there this year, demonstrating its three-pronged approach to security for three different markets: content security, networking and application delivery, and storage and data protection.

The company received accolades for its products, most recently from Network Products Guide, as its Web Filter and Barracuda Spam and Virus Firewall were winners of the 7th Annual 2012 Hot Companies and Best Products Awards. Its NG Firewall was also named Best Enterprise Firewall by SC Magazine.

As communications move to the cloud, security is a top priority now more than ever.  As technologies evolve and change, so do hacking attack methods, and so the proliferation of the Web as the medium of choice for communication means hackers concentrate their efforts where everyone is.

Of course, with all of the security concerns, businesses should be just as aggressive to backup their data as much as they protect it. Backing up data should be at the top of every enterprise computer maintenance list, right next to virus protection and security.

In addition to its security products, Barracuda launched its Backup Server 1090, one of the largest backup appliances on the market. The 1090 protects even larger environments with 90TB of storage and allows customers to manage all their backups up on a single platform.

Barracuda Networks gave an exclusive interview with TMCnet at Interop earlier this year. John Peterson, VP of Enterprise Technology spoke with Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) about the goings on with Barracuda, the launch of their 1090 product, and where Barracuda stands in the market of security and storage. See their conversation below.

As far as standing out above the competition, Peterson noted that Barracuda is easy to do business with.

“We are well known for our world-class customer support. We don’t have phone trees where you have to dial in and hold,” Peterson told Tehrani. “It’s really easy to get in our box, get in the network. If you need help, call Barracuda, we’re going to be there for you.”
