Shazam Predicts Top Songs for Summer 2012

Summertime is here and the livin’s easy. So, what songs will you be listening to this summer while you’re living easy and lounging in the sunshine?

Shazam (News - Alert), a global media discovery company, today has released its predictions for the top songs everyone will be listening to at the beach, the pool and in the clubs this summer. The list includes songs that are currently at the top of the chart and are expected to remain at the top over the next few months as well as newly released singles.  Within the list are also some surprise acts making a name for themselves globally. 



“Music has always had the power to evoke a feeling of time and place when you hear a particular song, especially during the summer.  Everyone has a particular soundtrack to their favorite vacations or when they were just hanging out with friends,” said Shazam Director of Music and Content, Will Mills. “Shazam’s Tag Charts are recognized as one of the most accurate predictive measures for the industry to see which songs and artists are resonating with people.  In fact, up to 85 percent of the songs that get to number one in Shazam’s charts go on to break into national top 10 charts, as well.”

Shazam’s Predicted Top Songs for Summer 2012 Include:

 “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Goyte - This song is currently receiving 1.5 million tags each week across the globe.

 “Scream” by Usher - This track is the most-tagged song from Usher’s forthcoming album and predicted to be one of the biggest releases of the summer.

 “Payphone” by Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa - This was number one in the Shazam New Release Tag Chart and is the follow-up to “Moves Like Jagger” which received over two million tags in the last year.

 “Let’s Go” by Calvin Harris featuring Ne - Yo - Calvin’s tracks for other artists have been popular at Shazam.  Rihanna’s “We Found Love” scored more than 3.5 million tags in the last year.

“Touch ‘N You” by Rick Ross featuring Usher – In the past year, Rick Ross’s “Stay Schemin’” has been the most-tagged track from a hip-hop mix tape.

 “Balada Boa” by Gusttavo Lima – Gusttavo is a Brazilian artist who has been a success in 21 countries.

 “Feel the Love” by Rudamental featuring John Newman - This song has remained number one in the Shazam New Release Chart UK for several weeks.

 “The Power” by DJ Fresh featuring Dizzee Rascal - DJ Fresh has spent the longest time (eight weeks) at the top of the Shazam New Release Chart UK with “Louder.”

 “Pound the Alarm” by Nicki Minaj - Minaj has been one of Shazam’s most popular artists in the last year with more than five million tags.

“Hold On” by Alabama Shakes – This track has been one of the most-tagged indie in the UK this year. 

Shazam also recently unveiled the industry’s fastest unlimited tagging for iOS and Android (News - Alert) devices.  The Shazam App includes other features such as LyricPlay streaming lyrics in time with the music as well as Shazam Friends social sharing and artist information.
