AT&T (News - Alert) announced the launch of two new music applications, mSpot Make-UR-Tones and mSpot Remix, in collaboration with mSpot. The company also announced its plans to extend its Napster Mobile solution to reach more customers.

AT&T claims it is the first carrier to offer customized ringtones from major brands and enable wireless transferring and listening of music from PC to mobile devices. Customers can now enjoy the freedom to listen to songs of their choice any time.

AT&T’s new mSpot Make-UR-Tones music application enables customers to customize or create a ring tone from part of a song of their choice using a mobile phone. The application is designed to offer flexibility, enabling the creation of a one- to 30-second ring tone from a full song. Once subscribed to mSpot Make-UR-Tones application, customers can enjoy up to 250,000 titles from various labels including EMI Music, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, INgrooves and IRIS.

Customers of AT&T can start using this application by downloading the software to their mobile phones. With the help of an advanced search engine, users can then select a song and select a 30-second or shorter segment for conversion to a ringtone. The application lets the user to listen to the song when editing is in process and also gives preview before downloading to the phone.

"Music is one of the most personal forms of self-expression," said Mark Collins, vice president of Consumer Data for AT&T's wireless unit, in a statement. "We want to empower our customers to use music however they wish on their mobile phones. We're constantly looking for new opportunities to meet the wireless needs and wants of our customers. We are pleased to offer our customers more choices and flexibility in how they experience music on the go."

"We are thrilled to work with AT&T to harness the power of the mobile platform to further enrich the musical experience for consumers," said Amanda Marks, executive vice president and general manager of Digital, Universal Music Group Distribution, in a statement. "Universal is committed to embracing technologies that are transforming the media landscape, and dynamic and compelling new personalization products, such as those from AT&T, allow us to creatively empower fans while respecting the rights of music creators."

Daren Tsui, CEO of mSpot, added: "mSpot's collaboration with AT&T and music labels enables us to offer AT&T mobile customers access to the largest ring tone catalog in North America." He further elaborated that "Make-UR-Tones and other mSpot services bring personalized, seamless music experiences to the mobile phone."

AT&T’s new mSpot Remix application, which is a music-on-demand mobile player, enables customers to access music libraries to and from their PCs directly to the mobile phone. The application on mobile connects to user’ PC via AT&T network and gets access to songs present in the PC. Once the mobile player is started on the phone, the customer can enjoy the song from the play list present in the PC and simultaneously can download the entire track. This downloaded song is stored on to memory card of the phone. With this the customer can enjoy the song any time, without needing a connection to the AT&T network.
