TomTom (News - Alert), a provider of navigation solutions and digital maps, reportedly announced the launch of TomTom EASE a car navigation solution that will be available at retailers from early this year.

In a news release Jocelyn Vigreux, president of TomTom Inc. said, that the TomTom EASE combines quality, simplicity and style into one compact device.

“It’s an obvious choice for drivers who want an affordable, easy to use portable navigation device with the most innovative map and routing technologies available,” Vigreux added.

The new solution features a sleek light-weight design and integrated EasyPort mount making the device more compact. Drivers can fit the entire device and attached mount into a pocket, purse or the glove compartment.

The EasyMenu user interface of TomTom offers a simple two-icon touchscreen menu that provides quick access to search tools enabling users to reach their destination faster.

IQ Routes Technology enables drivers to take the fastest route possible at any time of the day with accurate travel times. TomTom Map Share is also included in the device which allows users to make their own map changes and also include all map corrections made by TomTom. Map Share gives TomTom users a way to capture changes on their device keeping it up-to-date besides gaining inside local knowledge in detail.

The device also features maps from Tele Atlas (News - Alert) which covers over 6.5 million miles of roadways in the US and also includes more than 3 million standard and premium points of interest, according to TomTom sources.

TomTom products exhibit high levels of safety. TomTom EASE incorporates safety features and roadside assistance information. The extensive Help Me! Menu includes information like nearest car repair station or hospital among others.

The device measures 3.4 inch x 3.6 inch x 1.2 inches including the mount and it weighs 6.1 oz. The touch screen is a 3.5 inches LCD supporting 64K colors and offering a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. It includes pre-loaded maps of the US from Tele Atlas and sports a memory of 2GB Flash. It also features text-to-speech, said company sources.
