Mindspeed, DigiOn and Wind River Demo Digital Media Sharing at CES 2009

Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. proposes to showcase its Comcerto 100 packet processor integrated with DigiOn’s DiXiM Media Server (DMS) Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) technology component at the CES (News - Alert) 2009 in Las Vegas. This uses Wind River’s Platform for Consumer Devices, Linux Edition.

The demo will show how a broadband home router with DLNA technology helps consumers share and stream digital media which are saved on non-DLNA-enabled storage devices with other devices. The home consumer electronic devices include televisions, set-top boxes, PCs and gaming consoles.

“DigiOn has a long track record of successfully delivering multimedia, storage and networking software products. Combined with Wind River’s (News - Alert) 20-plus years of device software leadership, the tight relationship between the three companies has resulted in a solution that will highly benefit our customers,” said Preet Virk, senior vice president and general manager for Mindspeed’s CPE products.

He noted that the performance and headroom of the Comcerto 100 low-power packet processor combined with DigiOn’s DMS software and Wind River’s Linux platform enables consumer electronic devices with the capability to share media.

DigiOn’s DiXiM Media Server supports several processors in the consumer electronics market. DiXiM Media Server software and Mindspeed’s low-power processor platform offers an integrated solution to home networking equipment manufacturers. This reduces time-to-market for device manufacturers besides adding value to future home gateway products with home digital, media sharing capabilities.

The Comcerto 100 family of embedded low-power packet processors enables service providers to offer multimedia content to subscribers owing to its CPU headroom and high-packet throughput. The features of the Comcerto 100 includes low power consumption, gigabit wire rate NAT and VPN data routing, quality of service (QoS), carrier-class Voice-over-IP (VoIP) software offering and full IPv6 support.

Wind River’s Platform for consumer devices can help develop and deploy software for broadband access CPE devices, mobile handhelds, home entertainment devices, digital video devices, and automotive navigation and infotainment systems. Wind River specializes in Device Software Optimization (DSO) and it helps companies manage device software rapidly and reliably.

DigiOn’s DMS offers DLNA guideline qualified media server functionalities. Content discovery services (CDS), AutoSync, content distribution, upload function and a DTCP-IP encrypted distribution option are included in its feature set.

Mindspeed Technologies (News - Alert) designs and develops semiconductor networking solutions for communications applications in enterprises, metros and WANs. Its multiservice access products support voice and data services across wireline and wireless networks and WAN communication solutions.
