The IoT Evolution Expo at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas might be over, but the impact of all the sessions, strategy discussions and exhibit hall meetings will resound throughout the industry all year. In today’s IoT Time, we talked about the findings of our Security Summit, who won the Battle of the Platforms and the AT&T Fast Pitch competitions, and what the IoT is really all about. In MyIoT, I call for the establishment of a global standards body for the IoT, soon. Because without it, the industry will never grow cohesively, and will never be truly accepted by the mass of consumers.

In today’s IoT Time, Haemonetics enhances the blood supply chain, Kiosks get smarter thanks to Moki and Georgia State builds am IoT Think Tank. In MyIoT, Ken issues a bit of advice to all the hungry, ambitions startups in the industry: don’t get greedy.

Today in IoT news: Microsoft releases Windows 10 for the IoT, Nokia launches developer’s conference, and a new pill tracker makes pharmaceuticals safer. Meanwhile, Ken thinks we’ve all had about enough of hearing about how many trillions of dollars the IoT might be worth in 10 years. It’s time to stop navel gazing and get to work building solutions like the TruTag that will help the mass of consumers see the IoT not as a novelty that’s out to steal their private data, but an important developing area of technology that will transform their lives for the better. Also, don’t forget to register for IoT Evolution Expo, if you haven’t yet.

Wearable Technology isn’t only about wearing a gadget. It is also about extending materials to become wearable in invisible ways that do not show up as devices that need to be strapped on to an arm or around your head. As Wearable Technology becomes more sophisticated it will in many cases simply become a part of the clothes you wear or even directly a part of your skin. Other smart materials will deliver soft circuits and conductive pigments that can be formed into active circuits that can be implanted directly in the skin and provide feedback on all sorts of things – perhaps a tiny glucose meter. This session will shed light on many of these new wearable materials and offer a view into tomorrow’s possibilities.

Hollywood has certainly long driven the imagination with all sorts of advanced technology. In the past this tech was all imaginary but in todays world nothing is left strictly to imagination any longer. From the wearable technology of Tron: Legacy to the advanced tech of the latest Star Trek, much of it can already be implemented in the real world. This session demonstrates the evolution of wearable tech in the movies to wearable tech in our real lives.

By far the most popular type of wearable tech device is the health monitor. You may know this as a Nike Fuelband or a FitBit or a Jawbone Up or a Basis or a Shine or… Some people claim that only those who are already fully committed to a healthdriven lifestyle are the only ones who use them. Some people wear these devices merely as fashion statements. And those who should use them arent motivated to use them so their existence makes no difference. Where is the truth in all of this? Major industry wearable health tech players will render their verdicts.
