NFV: Making It Real Cassidy Shield Vice President, Marketing Platforms Business Division Alcatel-Lucent Network functions virtualization is more than just virtualization of network functions. To make the promise of NFV a reality and deliver network services in their new form reliably, at scale, and with a different cost structure, new challenges need to be overcome. Some questions the industry faces include: How to achieve high reliability when using low cost commodity hardware? How to manage and optimise distributed cloud sites placed in PoPs? How to effectively use automation and open source to drive costs down? These questions are answered through a new segment of solutions called “NFV Platform.” This session will discuss the key attributes that are needed to build such a platform and include lessons learned from AlcatelLucent’s own journey toward NFV as well as insights from NFV projects around the world.
