Collaboration is Important When Using Unified Communications in the Workplace

Generation Y employees – who are very used to multi-tasking – are increasingly using mobile and virtual solutions in work environments. That is leading to more collaboration in workplaces – such as in the Asia-Pacific region – with less divide appearing between unified communications and collaboration (UC&C), as well as social media and productivity applications, IDC (News - Alert) said.


In addition, businesses that avoid unified communications (UC), video or audio conferencing may not appeal to Generation Y employees and could lose market share to competitors, according to a report from IBM (News - Alert) cited by Teo.

It is also noteworthy that in the Asia-Pacific region, half of the current population is less than 30 years of age. Generation Y is made up of those who were born between the late 1970s to the mid-2000s.


To achieve success in the environment, workplaces will need to be collaborative and have environments with mobile, multi-media, multi-dimensional and virtual environments, IDC said. By 2015, 40 percent of employees in the Asia-Pacific region will be mobile... Read More
