Acapela-Kiosk.com Features Text Vocalization via Web Interface

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Acapela Group (News - Alert) officials recently featured their Acapela Kiosk website, which allows publishers to “vocalize newspapers and long texts via a web interface.”

The service is intended to provide audio access to material for print-impaired users.

The Acapela speech synthesis service, acapela-kiosk.com, is designed to turn written content into what company officials characterize as “a pleasant and accurate audio result.” It can vocalize newspapers and magazines, and company officials say “accessible publishing, Daisy books, self-publishing and podcasting are application areas that can all benefit from Acapela Kiosk.”

The way it works is that written content is converted into MP3 or Daisy formats, in “the language and voices of your choice.” It sounds fairly easy as well -- “upload or enter the text to be vocalized, define your settings, produce your sound file and download the result for direct use.” Hard to get much simpler than that.

TMC’s (News - Alert) Arvind Arora wrote recently that the speech tools offered by the company can convert any written text into natural speech files in the voice of user’s choice: “The company provides 60 High Quality standard voices within its text to speech solution packages, and also helps enterprise in synthesizing their own voice talent for enhanced market recognition through its Acapela Voice Factory.”

Acapela-kiosk.com offers back office follow up of pending text to audio jobs, collaboration between workers and even Acapela Kiosk support, if you should so require. The Web interface allows all comments, messages and files to be sent and shared between workers and saved.

In June 2011 Acapela Group announced the launch of its first HTML5 talking demo on Google (News - Alert) Chrome. “Users can discover and enjoy Acapela super hero via a click, what the speech synthesis can bring to applications with a few lines of code, to easily speech animate content in 30 languages,” said company officials.
