Nortel's CallPilot Intros Visual Voice on Unified Messaging Platform

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Nortel (News - Alert) has announced new speech-to-text conversion capabilities in its CallPilot unified messaging portfolio.

Also known as Visual Voice, Mutare EVM with SpinVox (News - Alert) Speech-to-Text is a joint development by SpinVox and Mutare Software.

Taking the spoken content of a Nortel CallPilot voicemail, Mutare EVM with SpinVox Speech-to-Text converts it to text. The message is then delivered with personalized Caller ID -- name, email and phone number -- and optional audio attachment to up to five email accounts or any Smart phone, PDA or mobile phone, according to Nortel officials.

Implemented in enterprises as a server-based software solution, this application merges voice and data into one unified messaging experience. In addition, it’s compatible with any email system or Internet-enabled device.

Officials said that it enables business users to process voicemail up to four times faster as they can now prioritize, forward, file, copy and delete converted voicemail messages with the same convenience of email.

With Visual Voice, Nortel CallPilot business-users like mobile users can now access and read all messages from a smart phone, laptop computer, or any Internet-enabled device from anywhere at any time.

Also, enterprise users can discreetly scan through and read voicemail messages while in meetings, loud areas, while on other calls. Officials said that voicemail in readable email form can now be forwarded to an administrative assistant or team member for quick response.

Mutare EVM with SpinVox Speech-to-Text provides customer care professionals the capability to organize voicemails just like emails, enabling them to better customer service and response, said officials. Additionally, hearing impaired workers can read voice messages without additional cost of proprietary equipment.

Supported with the Nortel CallPilot Unified Messaging portfolio, the EVM capability includes Mutare Software’s EVM gateway and SpinVox Speech-to-Text messaging service.

“The SpinVox and Mutare Software powered Visual Voice capability for Nortel CallPilot will be a boon to business users, simplifying day-to-day communications and helping workers be more efficient and productive,” Ben Crown, CEO at Mutare Software, said.

Tested interoperable with Nortel CallPilot 5.0 as part of the Nortel Select Product Program, Mutare EVM with SpinVox Speech-to-Text is currently available in the United States and Canada. The languages supported are English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
