AudioCodes Highlights Big New SBC at ITEXPO

The AudioCodes (News - Alert) session border controller story keeps getting bigger and better. The company recently unveiled the new Mediant 9000, which is the company’s biggest SBC yet, explained Alan Percy (News - Alert), who spoke with TMCnet at ITEXPO (News - Alert) this week. The Mediant 9000, which is available today, supports up to 16,000 sessions. That’s as compared to the company’s next-largest SBC, the Mediant 4000, which supports up to 4,000 sessions.
Targeted at very large enterprise and/or contact center applications, the Mediant 9000 was designed to address SIP trunking consolidation in large enterprises, which as a result have a need for larger SBCs, and to address the migration to SIP trunking in the contact center, which tends to involve high port usage.
While the new product is comparable to large enterprise SBCs in the market from other vendors such as Oracle (News - Alert)/Acme Packet and Sonus, Percy says because AudioCodes comes at the SBC space from the enterprise and not the service provider side, its per port cost is far lower than similar solutions.
Percy adds that the Mediant 9000 shows that AudioCodes now has a presence in large enterprise. He adds this solution is part of the company’s One Voice for Lync product portfolio, which includes gateways, SBCs, IP phones, call recording, network management, services and support.
“We’re a lot more than a one-trick pony,” he says, adding that AudioCodes is also demoing its WebRTC solution at ITEXPO this week.
In other recent news from AudioCodes, the company recently announced a new customer win. The customer is French service provider Completel, which is using AudioCodes’ Mediant 2400 and 4000 SBCs.
