Broad-Connect Telecom's Lync TVA Server Introduced at ITEXPO

By Steve Anderson, Contributing TMCnet Writer

ITEXPO (News - Alert) is a great time to not only get information about the broader markets involved in the communications and technology industries, but it's also a great time to check out new products. Some companies even hold on to new releases specifically for the show, and Broad-Connect Telecom—a partner organization of Citel—is looking to join those ranks with the introduction of its new Lync TVA Server.

The Lync TVA Server will provide the bridge necessary for two major technologies—the Citel Technologies' (News - Alert) Portico TVA and Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync—to come together to allow legacy telephone handsets the capability to work with Microsoft Lync, thus preventing the need to buy a whole new set of handsets just to get in line with Lync. While Lync was developed mainly so that users could ditch the physical and instead work with a soft phone for an IP-based communication, there will always be users who prefer having the physical phone on a desktop. Moreover, there are also those who are concerned—and not without reason, really—about the costs involved in performing a total migration to IP telephony. Having a system like the Lync TVA Server in place, meanwhile, will help reduce those concerns by cutting down the costs in the move to IP.

With the Lync TVA Server system, another benefit comes along for even large-scale enterprises with geographically dispersed locations. More specifically, using a Lync TVA Server system will allow for much more rapid movement of IT and telephony requirements alike, while allowing key functions to remain in place. Existing handsets can even, in certain cases, get additional functions as a result.

The Lync TVA Server will be on display at ITEXPO as not only part of the Microsoft Lync Partner Solutions Pavilion—booth 412, specifically—but it will also be introduced at the Lync Solution Pavilion Theater at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29. It will be part of a larger session staged by the vice president of sales and marketing, Ian Gomm, entitled “You Can Teach Old Phones New Tricks: Lync'ing Legacy Handsets.” Gomm offered some commentary on the Lync TVA Server ahead of his presentation, saying, “We continue to be impressed by the market demand for having the Portico TVA work with Microsoft Lync and are excited that that Broad-Connect has developed a server system that bridges the compatibility issue, and we are looking forward to working with them to bring this joint solution to market.”

It's hard to turn down a system that will allow older hardware like handsets to get greater utility, as well as make these handsets part of a new telephony system. It does great things in terms of reducing costs, and also offers terrific value for those organizations looking to make the jump to IP telephony. Broad-Connect Telecom will likely see plenty of interest in the Lync TVA Server when it becomes available to its likely user base, thanks to the sheer amount of value it brings to the table.
