How to Offer Backup, Archiving Solutions While Avoiding Commodity Pricing
By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor
You’ve probably heard this declaration countless times “Be sure to back up that document” and you might be embarrassed to admit that you still leave your thumb drive at home and don’t really give much thought as to what would happen if you could no longer access that pressing business document.
But, perhaps you should give greater thought to this possibility as downtime and data recovery problems are plaguing all types of businesses and leaving many feeling the monetary and emotional consequences that come with bouts of downtime. In fact, a recent survey, from Stratus Technologies (News - Alert) and ITIC Corporation, found that more than half of the businesses (52 percent) do not fully understand the potential financial impact of IT downtime and the negative consequences it can have for their bottom line and reputation.
In addition to losing critical seconds to conduct business, downtime can also leave companies vulnerable if they do not have proper backup systems in place. The survey also revealed that although 48 percent of companies currently calculate the cost of IT downtime, most of them still drastically underestimate the actual costs of outages, the ensuing remediation efforts, customer dissatisfaction and the increased potential of litigation, according to survey officials.
But when it comes to backup, recovery and archiving, managed service providers (MSP) stand ready to quell your outage and downtime concerns as they deliver a multitude of these types of services.
If you are an MSP, however, you might have noticed recently that too often you find yourself embarking down the slippery slope of delivering a backup solution that is characterized by commodity pricing and diluted value. So what are you to do? Are there ways you can deliver high value, highly profitable backup and storage related solutions while still staying miles ahead of the completion? You sure can.
In just a few days Datto, a provider of hardware-based on- and off-site backup and disaster recovery solutions, will host a free webinar event titled, “Business Continuity Solutions for MSPs: How to remain profitable and avoid the Commodity Trap,” taking place at 2 p.m. EST/11 a.m. PT on Thursday, April 19. The webinar will explore how to structure your storage offerings; pricing models for success; choosing the right technologies; and bundling storage solutions with other products.
