VoIP Can Keep Online Education from Scoring Low Marks with Students
Education, like many industries, is in flux as a result of the Internet. Whereas 20 years ago you needed a teacher or at least a library card to study a subject, today the Internet offers up educational resources on every conceivable topic.
Schools also are changing the way they deliver education, tempted as they are by the possibilities of distance learning and asynchronous education. There’s something awfully appealing, to students and school administrators alike, with the idea of delivering coursework over the Internet and letting the students study and complete their assignments from home on their own schedule. Hence, the increasing volume of online education programs.
As a recent VoIP Innovations blog post notes, however, there’s a glaring issue with online education that doesn’t get talked about enough: attrition rates.
Prior to becoming a journalist, I was a teacher for a school that offered online courses. I also completed part of my undergraduate degree via distance education.
