Zetafax Feature: Fax Over IP Maximizes IT Investments, Returns Quick ROI

By Erin Harrison, Senior Editor

Electronic communications are a critical aspect of everyday for people throughout the world. Most executives today no longer rely on handwritten or face-to-face communications, instead favoring the ease and speed of electronic options.

Compliance, efficiency and cost-savings are three key factors driving the adoption of fax over Internet Protocol - or FoIP - which is becoming an important element to add to the enterprise IP network as such solutions fully exploit the trend of moving everything over the network. According to industry experts, FoIP can return a quick ROI and produce productivity and enhance collaboration that can be measured in the bottom line.

"Fax remains fundamental to many businesses' day-to-day operations, but managing fax can be time-consuming and costly," according to Gartner (News - Alert) analysts Tosh Prabhakar  and Ken Weilerstein  in their report "Tactical Guidelines for Reducing Your Fax Costs."

Innovative and patented FoIP solutions are available today that span market segments like financial, legal, government and retail. Such solutions will work with enterprise, SMB and small companies to deliver the necessary channel coverage to meet all communication needs.

In fact, Gartner predicts that by 2012, the use of fax servers in the enterprise space will increase by as much as 80 percent. Using a fax server can maximize IT investments and provide more effective and manageable IT service by integrating multifunction products to centralize printing, copying, scanning and faxing services on a single device.

Equisys recently announced the availability of Zetafax 2010, the latest version of its fax server software. According to company officials, the new version provides support for Microsoft (News - Alert) Office 2010 and Zalso provides performance enhancements and increased support for virtualization and FoIP - ensuring that companies who rely on fax communications are fully supported whenever they migrate to new platforms or technologies.

However, industry experts recommend before moving all communications to the network, consider what you want and need out of your fax solution. It is much easier to incorporate benefits into the network if fax is a consideration early in the plan to migrate the network to an all IP environment. If the network is fully installed and running and the fax is a consideration later, organizations cannot experience the full benefit of streamlined communications and cost.
