Enhancing VoIP Service Delivery with Carrier-Grade Media Gateways
By Erik Linask, Group Managing Editor
If you follow the communications space at all, you know well that you could spend an entire day reading about the latest mobile devices, desktop phones, IP PBXs, unified communications software, applications and additional hardware to enhance the value of any of these products, and countless other exciting innovative solutions being introduced into the communications industry. It’s exciting, and it’s a sign that, despite the down economy innovation and growth continues, largely because the communications industry is one that is able to actually support the reductions in expenditures most businesses are looking for, while offering improved services.
Indeed, today’s communications environment is constantly evolving, with new features, services, and applications being developed, designed to improve communications efficiency and convenience. But, they all need to be combined, and integrated into complete communications solutions by developers, integrators, and service providers.
This includes the basics, like VoIP, conferencing, IVR, messaging, as well as the many other innovative and increasingly effective, yet complex, services, including video, application sharing, mobility, and more. To make matters even more complex, this all must take place in a global infrastructure with varied access and service delivery methods, requiring flexibility to adapt to the needs of individual network operators.
So, as their customers scale down their spending, service providers, too, must work with one eye on expenses — this includes lowering capital as well as operational expenditures, as well as an ability to quickly roll out their latest revenue generating services. After all, once their networks have been built out, services and applications are providers’ lifeline.
In order to protect that lifeline, they must find a solution that can not only deliver these services, but can handle the various access networks and transport protocols in use today — not to mention providing call quality controls in VoIP and multimedia communications environments. After all, despite the proliferation of video and text-based communications, voice still remains the one application all businesses need, which means providers need to be able to accomplish all else without sacrificing reliability and quality of voice services.
To accommodate growing VoIP services, as well as other multimedia applications securely and reliably, providers need a solution that will enable them to easily connect with other providers as well as enterprise and other end-user network, including any number of softswitches and IP PBXs, in both wireline and wireless environments.
Let’s face it, what good are services if you can’t deliver them to subscribers?
What they need is a high- density carrier-grade media gateway.
“Operators today require high-density solutions to not only support their growth, but also to provide the flexibility needed to deliver services in a quick and dynamic fashion,” explained Mark St-Onge, director of sales support for TelcoBridges.
To explain how service providers can leverage media gateways — like TelcoBridges’ (News - Alert) Tmedia series — to create a growing revenue stream in any economic environment, St-Onge delivered a compelling case during an hour-long Webinar this week. The event, Leveraging the Benefits of High-Density Media Gateways, focused on the capabilities of carrier-grade media gateways that help lower both CAPEX and OPEX (News - Alert), while enabling the delivery of new revenue-generating services. Mindful of a growing trend toward “green technology,” Marc also discusses how to leverage TelcoBridges’ technology to reduce power consumption, resulting in additional cost reductions.
TelcoBridges itself has customers in more than 45 countries, which offers experience enough in working with various network operators, but Marc deals specifically with customers to deliver the appropriate solution for their needs, and works to deliver their ongoing feedback to help enhance TelcoBridges’ solutions.
In fact, results from that feedback will be on display next week in Miami, at INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO, when TelcoBridges will be unveiling the latest additions to its Tmedia line at booth #915 in the exhibit hall.
For a briefing on the benefits of media gateways, including a discussion on just what a high-density carrier-grade gateway is, and how it can help drive your business to a new level, check out the archived version of the Webinar, which includes an informative Q&A, as well as an opportunity to ask your own questions.
Even better, visit TelcoBridges at ITEXPO (News - Alert), where Marc will be on hand to discuss the service delivery environment today, its evolution, and even which media gateway solution is a fit for your particular needs.
