Exinda, a global supplier of WAN optimization and application acceleration products, has been tapped by New Zealand-based scenic tour operator Real Journeys to improve network acceleration within the Real Journeys’ network.

Exinda’s network bandwidth and application management solutions have been designated to Real Journeys’ offices – Exinda 1860 at the main headquarters and an Exinda 4860 at data centers in Invercargill, TeAnau and Queenstown – which all provide support to more than 150 workstations and data distribution between the travel company and its hospitality and excursion partners throughout New Zealand. Traffic in the WAN will be managed by Exinda’s IT team, ensuring that important applications have enough bandwidth and won’t be affected by less important, large bandwidth applications.

“The Exinda solutions have helped solve our network bandwidth and application management issues, allowing us to increase performance of critical business applications while maintaining crucial customer facing and employee communications,” said Mark Lovell, IT manager for Real Journeys, adding that bandwidth expenditure has been decreased by almost 50 percent, thanks to the network visibility provided by Exinda’s solution. In addition, Real Journeys will not be required to invest in extra network bandwidth infrastructure.

Following an intense and widespread review of network acceleration options in the market, Real Journeys and communications solutions partner Gen-I picked WAN optimization solutions offered by Exinda.

“Our team, in cooperation with Gen-I, conducted a detailed analysis of Real Journeys network, traffic and business priorities to enable us to recommend the Exinda solution that was the best fit for the organization,” said Kevin Suitor (News - Alert), vice president of marketing at Exinda. “Real Journeys was a great example of a company that relies on multiple applications that are sharing the same network.”

After three weeks of testing and installation, Real Journeys was on its way to improving and accelerating network traffic. Since then, company officials say that they’ve seen increased network performance, as well as a more efficient ability in identifying network issues as they happen and delegating “business-critical” network traffic.

“Before Exinda, the growing volume of traffic in our network was hindering our ability to fully utilize many web-based business applications , and was placing us at risk of experiencing saturation in many of our links,” added Lovell. “Exinda's solutions have allowed us to put more than 20 percent more data - primarily replication traffic - over our 5 MB pipe, which accelerated overnight backups between Invercargill and Queenstown.”
