Acting on the growing popularity of VoIP-based calling services in the UK, telecom and media regulator Ofcom has created a set of consumer questionnaires or surveys that will help organizations gain a better understanding of what needs to be done in order to create a regulation plan for this new technology and the services which are associated with it.
The organization made the surveys available on its Web site, along with a set of proposals about how to regulate and how to buy the services; and vast information about how the technology works. The online documents also include a section where online visitors can leave responses about the organization's regulation proposals or any questions the surveyed party may have.
This idea seems very interesting and overall appealing. I am a bit surprised that I didn't stumble across something like this coming from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), or a similar agency. If one of our readers finds something like this on the Web, I would be interested in seeing it… Please respond in our forums.
Ofcom will have the surveys available online and will accept responses until May. The regulator will publish its findings in August.
