ITEXPO Session Preview: Why Testing is Vital for IMS Networks

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Senior Editor

One of the appeals of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) technology is that it provides a standardized environment. This simplifies the process of managing next-generation networks. But, the standardize nature of IMS does not eliminate the need to test network performance. It is easy for service providers to fall into the trap of thinking that adopting IMS means testing can be disposed with.

You might be thinking, why can’t I just perform product testing to make sure equipment meets IMS standards, and then leave it at that? To learn why testing is necessary for IMS networks, mark your calendar for the “Testing IMS Networks” session at INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO West 2007 next month.

During this session, you’ll learn why using a standardized IMS environment actually increases the need for testing. The presenters—Keith Cobler, marketing manager for Tektronix’s network management division, and representatives from IMS Forum (News - Alert), Agilent and IXIA—will explain that the multi-vendor environment IMS enables, and the types of services it can deliver, make testing very important.

Interoperability testing for IMS networks is, in fact, vital to ensure both successful deployment and network support. Also, without testing it is impossible to ensure the quality of experience  end-users expect. Attend the session, scheduled for Wednesday, September 12, 2007, from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m., to learn more.

While you’re waiting for the show to start, learn more about IMS network testing by visiting Tektronix’s (News - Alert) TMCnet.com channel, VoIP Test Solutions.

What’s the best resource to learn about latest trends in the IP communications industry? Why, INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO, of course. ITEXPO West 2007 is just around the corner—this year it’s being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California, Sept. 10-12. Register here. Preview sessions, speakers and exhibitors.
