Launch: Ixia's Software-Only Version of IMS and VoIP Testing Tool
By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor
IP testing systems provider Ixia announced on Thursday the launch of IxVoice Lite, the company's software-only version of its IMS and VoIP protocol testing tool IxVoice.
Ixia (News - Alert) is known for IxVoice, the company’s hardware and software test framework that provides unified VoIP and PSTN testing for network equipment manufacturers and service providers. It addresses SIP, SCCP (Skinny), H.323, MGCP, H.248 (MEGACO), as well as TDM and analog telephony services.
IxVoice’s test set-ups can synchronize telephony events across IP and PSTN technologies and can include different combinations of media such as video, voice, tone, and fax (T.30/T.38).
Today, the company launched a software-only version of this program to enable users to run a downloadable IxVoice Lite on their desktops instead of having to share a workstation. IxVoice Lite’s SIP library can also be used to test CSCF functionality for IMS implementations.
“Ensuring the quality of experience is a core requirement for increasing adoption of VoIP and ultimately IMS,” said Ixia’s CEO Errol Ginsberg in a statement. “IxVoice Lite provides a user friendly, full-featured tool that is priced to enable anyone interested in testing VoIP quality to perform sophisticated testing to ensure quality.”
Today’s news follows Ixia’s announcement back in June about being tapped by Tekelec to implement its IxVoice test application to verify the company’s fixed mobile convergence (FMC) voice and messaging system on its IMS architecture. Tekelec (News - Alert) will also use IxVoice to conduct interoperability field trials with a tier-one carrier.
Tekelec will also use Ixia’s IxVoice in field trials to simulate IMS subscribers and verify the functionality and performance of SMS messages to other simulated subscribers and real SIP-enabled devices within an IMS environment.
