Technicolor (News - Alert), a technology provider for the media and entertainment sector, revealed it has successfully deployed its session border controller (SBC) and softswitch (also known as a VoIP switch) to enable session initiation protocol (SIP) interconnection between two network operators in Italy.
Technicolor delivers advanced video services to content creators and distributors. It has an extensive intellectual property portfolio focused on imaging and sound technologies and based on a thriving licensing business.
The Cirpack interconnection solution is designed to meet the standards of Italian operators. It optimizes a current company’s infrastructure while reducing costs. The SBC deployed at the edge of the network - as an interconnection element for SIP signaling and media - ensures the necessary security and routing features.
"We are delighted to deliver our SIP Interconnection capabilities to the Italian market," said Juan Lopez, head of Cirpack, in a statement. "This most recent success is the result of close collaboration with our operator customers over several months.”
The company has supported similar efforts throughout Europe, including within the French, German and Italian markets, enabling customers to offer new and innovative services to their end-users.
With this new launch, Cirpack has reinforced its position as the partner of choice for Italian operators seeking to leverage network resources from the region's biggest provider.
Back in June, Technicolor introduced a small version of its session border controller under the Cirpack brand. The Cirpack Small SBC will assist network operators to deliver multimedia and
interactive communications services without compromising the security of its customers IP network.
With its separate media and signaling planes, the solution can quickly add additional modules to existing equipment including VoIP switches and will continue to expand the functions of SBCs as needs evolve.
