According to a just-released study completed by IP solutions provider Sonus Networks (News - Alert), workers can waste almost half their days conducting communication-related tasks. However, when leveraging unified communications, findings highlight that firms can significantly raise productivity by an impressive 23 percent and save up to $13,000 per employee in a 12 month period.
"With dozens of emails, multiple phone calls and even more texts or IMs each day our traditional business communications processes have become overwhelming at times and it does not have to be that way," Webtorials editor-in-chief Steve Taylor said in a recent blog post.
Additionally, research shows that on average employees can spend around 1.4 hours per day in an attempt to contact customers, partners and colleagues alike, while 1.5 hours a day is wasted searching for vital business information that unified communications could have located with ease.
The study also highlighted that typically on a daily basis 30 minutes is used to get rid of unwanted email and up to an hour each workday is used up in order to copy phone messages to email.
It is incredibly important for businesses to implement next-generation unified communications if they haven’t already to enable employees to gain access to technologies that can inform them about where workers are and if they available to handle a call. This helps to up the ante on customer satisfaction as their issue, complaint, or problem can be resolved in the shortest time frame possible.
"Many companies first deployed SIP trunking for network simplification and cost reduction purposes but this study from Sonus and Webtorials makes it clear that even greater economic benefits can accrue by deploying a cross-company SIP-based platform for Unified Communications (News - Alert)," Sonus Global Marketing Vice President Wes Durow added.
Recently, TDS Telecommunications advised that when switching to VoIP from traditional premise-based systems, IT expenses can be cut by up to 40 percent. Besides being able to apply this large sum of money to other business endeavors, companies who begin to leverage VoIP solutions now will keep their competitive edge against new entrants in the space over the coming years.
