VoIP Gateway Maker Cantata Certified by VoIP Peering Provider XConnect

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Associate Editor

VoIP peering provider XConnect (News - Alert) and VoIP gateway manufacturer Cantata announced on Wednesday a new level of integration between their solutions. Cantata’s IMG 1010 VoIP gateway is now certified interoperable with XConnect’s VoIP peering services and ENUM registry.
Interoperability with XConnect’s services helped earn Cantata its new role as a certified XConnect Ready partner.
Service providers looking to utilize both Cantata’s gateways and XConnect’s services now have access to two main integration advantages.
1. Termination costs can be substantially reduced by using the Cantata IMG 1010 platform to query XConnect’s registry using SIP and ENUM methodologies. This process can identify routing details for more than 300 million phone numbers operated by more than 400 service providers.
2. Cantata’s IMG 1010 can be used as a bridge between VoIP and PSTN traffic—making possible the delivery of hosted and dedicated softswitch-based applications. This enables clients of Cantata to benefit from XConnect’s multilateral peering services, which offer such benefits as enhanced quality of service and reduced costs for VoIP call terminated to millions of phone numbers listed in the XConnect registry.
“Today’s service providers are interested in reducing their termination costs and
improving their margins by identifying wholesale traffic that is destined for VoIP
networks and sending it directly to the service provider that owns the number,” said XConnect CEO Eli Katz, in a statement.
Katz continued: “We’re very pleased to partner with VoIP equipment leaders like
Cantata as the VoIP Peering (News - Alert) market evolves.”
Timothy Murray, CEO at Cantata, also expressed his pleasure to be partnering with XConnect.
“Our recent release of ENUM support on the IMG 1010, along with XConnect’s peer service, will give carrier customers reduced operating expenses, faster
connection times and improved call quality,” Murray said in a statement.
For those not familiar, Cantata’s IMG 1010 is an integrated media and signaling VoIP gateway designed to provide any-to-any network connectivity. It enables the delivery of SIP-based services into legacy networks (think SS7, PRI, CAS), and IP-to-IP transcoding for connecting IP networks that use different protocols.
XConnect is a provider of VoIP peering services based on the ENUM standard. The company focuses on helping providers and carriers reduce costs while enabling rich, multimedia IP communications on a cross-network basis.
