In a bid to help postgraduate students master practical technical challenges with rolling out IMS network architectures, a Switzerland-based technical university has chosen to standardize on Empirix’s (News - Alert) Hammer solution.
Bedford, Mass.-based Empirix provides VoIP monitoring solutions to help company’s maintain the quality of user experiences for business critical voice, data, video and mobile services.
According to officials with Empirix, The University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland in Fribourg or “EIA-FR,” will use the company’s Hammer for IMS testing and monitoring as part of a new postgraduate course in “Next-generation IP Networks.”
Raphael Tsitrin, European director of channel partners and strategic alliances at Empirix said, “Seeing Hammer for IMS being used to teach telecoms professionals as part of this unique course reinforces the important role of the Hammer suite in assuring next generation networks and service quality.”
The goal of this new course is to prepare students to overcome IMS challenges more readily “by training them in the use of key tools such as testing and monitoring systems.”
The course is especially significant today as communications service providers turn more and more to IMS as a framework for delivering varied services over a single core network. This service delivery method is not only more cost efficient, but also makes it easier to manage the network as well as easier to create new convergent services.
“Empirix has been setting the standard in IMS quality assurance for many years, so it was a logical conclusion that we would utilize Hammer for IMS as part of our new Master of Science course,” said Antoine Delley, head of the ICT Department at EIA-FR.
In addition to this latest course, Empirix also authored a book, “Ensuring a Quality IMS Experience,” to outline important strategies and examples for overcoming the challenges of transitioning to IMS.
