In a statement, John Kendall, senior analyst for Connected Home at HIS, said, “All Internet service providers are adjusting their CPE strategies to enable more data into homes, and more robust, higher capacity networking around them. High capacity WiFi (News - Alert) in particular has moved from a differentiation luxury to a quality of service priority for operator-provided CPE.”
Kendall added, “The average Western European home owned 3.9 smartphones, tablets, and laptops in 2013, and this number is expected to grow to 4.5 in 2014. To be able to support consumer demand for concurrent HD quality video streams over a wireless home network, Wi-Fi penetration in worldwide cable broadband CPE shipments is expected to grow from 50.1 percent in 2013 to 73 percent in 2017.”
