DSP Group Plays Pivotal Role in Cordless Technology

By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

CAT-iq or 'Cordless Advanced Technology – internet and quality’ was developed as a response to IP-based services and devices. CAT-iq 2.0 handsets developed by Samsung and VTech  are the world's first CAT-iq 2.0-certified products that deliver crystal clear sound to cordless phone. They are now enabled by DSP Group Inc.'s chipset solutions.

Ever since its inception, DSP has been at the forefront of CAT-iq technology. Transport of voice via broadband is definitely far superior to that via the telephone network and 3G mobile communication.

The tremendous advantage with CAT-iq 2.0 is that it enables customers to make end-to-end VoIP calls with all the extras that come with Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) telephony, including wideband voice quality, multiple lines, caller ID and synchronization of phone books and system settings.

DSP Group is affiliated with the DECT Forum and Home Gateway Initiative and also contributes to creating of corresponding ETSI (News - Alert) specifications and supports CableLab's specification activities. It is hence deeply involved in all stages of defining the next-generation cordless technology.

The DECT (News - Alert) Forum is the international association of the wireless home and enterprise communication industry and has been offering certification of CAT-iq products at laboratories in Germany and Norway.

In a press release, Oz Zimerman, corporate VP of marketing and business development at DSP Group said, "The presence of our chipset solutions in the world's first CAT-iq 2.0-certified handsets highlights the pivotal role DSP Group continues to play in cordless technology and as more CE manufacturers recognize the advantages offered by CAT-iq 2.0 and adopt the standard, we expect to further strengthen our foothold in this fast-evolving area."

The VTech and Samsung handsets are expected to be commercially launched later this year and DSP Group will be demonstrating its full range of technology innovations at CeBIT (News - Alert) 2011 in Hanover, Germany, on March 1-3, 2011.

In a related news release, TMCnet reported that DSP Group, Inc demonstrated an array of cutting-edge wireless solutions for the home at the 2011 International CES (News - Alert) in Las Vegas on January 6-9.
