Aculab Adds Video Capability to Prosody

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Aculab is adding video support to its Prosody family of media processing products in a bid to open new opportunities for services providers, applications developers and enterprises using Prosody X hardware platforms and Prosody S host media processing software, according to the company.

While Aculab’s (News - Alert) video support capabilities provide consumers with the basic capability to download and view sports and entertainment clips, the company is extending far beyond these basics and following its core philosophy of allowing customers to leverage both existing and emerging commercial and consumer applications for video

“The continual expansion of video enabled wireless devices is helping drive consumer demand for video and multimedia services,” said Andrew Nicholson, product manager for Aculab. “In addition, the proliferation of desktop and device-based video conferencing, and video call centers, is also generating increased interest in this technology.”

According to the U.K.-based provider of enabling technology for the communications market, Aculab’s Prosody product line provides VoIP and PSTN solution developers with call control signaling, digital network connectivity and advance media processing capabilities.

“The enhanced video capabilities available through Prosody products enable providers to tap new revenue streams and deliver a richer feature set to their customers,” said Nicholson.

These applications require broad codec and protocol support making the Prosody products ideally suited. Aculab’s video capability includes support for most of the current codecs used in video communications.

In addition, the emerging uses of video are lining up as the consumer functions of video messaging and real-time video telephony, as well as commercial uses such as video enabled contact centers and robust on-the-fly video conferencing. The video features enabled by both Prosody X and Prosody S provide the scalability and performance flexibility required by services providers, applications developers and enterprises.

Video support for Prosody S is available now from Aculab and authorized partners. More information is available on Aculab website www.aculab.com
