Aculab's Gravett Talks about NXTComm, Upcoming Releases

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Aculab (News - Alert), a provider of enabling technology for the global communications market, offers VoIP developers the hardware and software they need for high performance, wired and wireless communications solutions.

Recently, I had the chance to speak to Aculab’s Sales and Marketing Director, Chris Gravett, about what the company has been up to and what they'll be previewing at NXTComm.

Gravett told me that they're exhibiting both their Aculab product ranges and ApplianX line, which was launched earlier this year. The ApplianX line includes an IP Gateway and gateway for Microsoft (News - Alert) Office Communications Server 2007, and said this is the first time they've shown them at NXTComm.

The ApplianX deployment-ready appliances are designed for infrastructures in converged telecommunications networks of enterprises, data centers and service providers. "We'll be showing a new gateway that supports up to 8 trunks; previously it just went up to 4 - producing more cost savings as opposed to having to invest in a 6 year sever," said Gravett.

Gravett also said GroomerII; Aculab’s signaling and media gateway, will be presented with a focus on the market for SS7 and SIP-based IP networks.

According to Gravett, this SIP product was recently approved by Siemens for interconnection to its HiPath 8000 IP PBX (News - Alert).

"It's an appropriate gateway for linking the HiPath 8000 IP PBX to traditional SS7 networks or any TDM service," Gravett said.

Gravett also said they'll be talking about Prosody S version 2.4 and are looking forward to the release of version 3.0 which, for the first time, "gives us a Linux HMP offering and brings Prosody S, our host based media processing, in line with Prosody X, our DSP-based media processing, for continuity between the two product lines for the first time."

When I asked about a date, Gravett told me they are looking at September for the release.

"We'll also be re-emphasizing the strengths of Prosody X industry leading codecs covering both fixed and mobile networks and will be announcing AMR wideband which is expected to be released in Q4 of this calendar year," he said.

I asked Gravett if there are any other new things to look out for in the near future and he told me that aside from the releases of the AMR wideband and others he mentioned earlier like the combination of Prosody X and Prosody S, they are also in the process of releasing Sigtran M3 UI as part of their SS7 package for the transport of SS7 signaling messages.
