Telecommunications equipment manufacturer RAD Data Communications announced today its new line of ETX media converters, designed for Metro Ethernet applications where conversion from fiber to copper is required.
According to a press release from RAD, bridging between the Central Office or Point of Presence and the customer premises is typically achieved by using fiber optic cable. But, because customer premises are usually wired with copper, “there is a need for simple and affordable fiber-to-copper media conversion.”
The ETX provides that conversion. For central site conversions, it is used in a LRS-20 rack (connecting as many as 16 users per chassis), and for remote-side deployment in a single-slot LRS-1 standalone unit.
 ETX Converters
RAD’s ETX converter provides module that support a variety of Ethernet media conversions, including Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and transport layers 1 and 2. Additionally, the converter offers a choice of optical interfaces, with maximum distances of 75 miles.
