Mobile phone users in the U.K. are looking increasingly to VoIP as a popular communication tool on their mobile devices to not only save on international calling but also bypass roaming charges.
According to the results of a recent YouGov omnibus survey commissioned by Kineto Wireless, Inc., mobile Voice over IP is becoming a daily feature used by consumers.
Steve Shaw (News - Alert), vice president of corporate marketing with Kineto Wireless said the survey shows the market for mobile VoIP apps is growing. “These results show us how people are using mobile VoIP applications, and operators have the opportunity to drive new service offers based on growing consumer demand,” Shaw said.
The online survey of 2,255 adults in the U.K. found that 11 percent of people have downloaded a VoIP application on their mobile and use it daily, while 18 percent of adults with a mobile phone are interested in VoIP services.
Compared to the national average of mobile users who use their VoIP apps every day, the survey also found 21 percent of 18-24 years olds are using their VoIP application daily.
Uses of mobile Voice over IP include low-cost international calling (39 percent) and bypassing international roaming charges (19 percent).
Another recent study by research firm In-Stat (News - Alert) also notes the market for mobile devices able to place calls using VoIP will generate annual revenues of $32.2 billion by 2013.
According to In-Stat, as new 4G wireless networking technologies like LTE and WiMAX (News - Alert) are rolled out, mobile Voice over IP will continue to become a more cost sensible route for placing calls.
