In today’s increasingly mobile workforce, it’s more important than ever for companies to have the right solutions and products in place to empower their remote employees. For larger companies and enterprises, implementing these solutions is an easy task. They have plenty of money to spend, and do so willingly if it means giving their employees the best available tools. However, smaller companies have a harder time providing the same level of connectivity due to money restraints.

Although VoIP is a relatively inexpensive option when compared to legacy systems, it can still be too expensive for some companies. So, what are these businesses supposed to do? Restrict their employees by only allowing them to work in the office? What about business calls outside of the office, or the benefits involved with having flexible workspaces? Smaller organizations haven’t been able to give their employees these options, which undoubtedly impacts the happiness of workers and their productivity.

That’s why CyberData (News - Alert) Corporation has released a free software download—CyberSoftPhone—which will give customers who want to use a video intercom with secure access control options the ability to use CyberData’s newly released SIP-enabled Outdoor H.264 Video Intercoms without the need for a VoIP phone system or a new VoIP video phone. An important point for companies that are cautious about investing in expensive solutions, this new offering requires no additional cost and provides a complete solution for that segment of the market needing video and two-way audio communication, as well as secure access control.

The SIP H.264 Video Intercom works in Point to Point mode, which allows the CyberSoftPhone to be used for two-way communications without a VoIP phone system. Put simply, this means that a remote worker can easily just press the call button on the intercom or dial an extension, then the user’s PC will receive the call and see the video. From there, the user can use the keypad to issue different commands.

Phil Lembo, President and CEO of CyberData, commented on the need for a solution like this, saying, “There is a market of customers for whom the need for two-way audio and video communication and secure access control is paramount, but who otherwise are hindered by the cost of investing in a VoIP phone system or video phone…The needs of the end user customer are our priority. Our goal is to make it easier for the smaller company who has the same requirements as larger, enterprise outfits for audio/video communication and secure access control, but who don’t have those same resources to invest in a new VoIP phone system. Additionally, resellers in the security industry now have a complete offering to this segment of the market that is unhindered by the usual larger dollar investment.”
