To attract customers in today's market, telecommunication companies need to boast next-generation networks that deliver more services at minimal costs – all at the fastest speeds available. In order to accomplish this goal, the majority of telecos have begun making the switch to 4G/Long Term Evolution (LTE (News - Alert)) networks.
Although this transition provides telecommunication companies with ample room for growth, the evolution is also associated with a number of potential headaches. Providing faster networking speeds will increase the traffic that telecos need to manage, which hampers the scalability of existing infrastructures and leads to greater networking costs.
Furthermore, the majority of today's smartphones aren't loaded with the security software that is necessary for these providers to identify and contend with malware and virus attacks.
Net Optics, Inc., a leading provider of real-time network visibility solutions, recently issued a release that offers telecos a few helpful tips on how they can successfully transition to a 4G/LTE network without having to suffer through some of the aforementioned issues.
The Santa Clara, California-based hardware firm suggests that telecommunication companies monitor for customers who use the most data and throttle them back, or even block some traffic flows if need be. The company also recommends employing network-side visibility to minimize downtime and allow for immediate issue resolution.
In addition, Net Optics (News - Alert) discourages investing in costly monitoring tools. Instead, telecos should look to optimize their legacy network monitoring tools whenever possible. Finally, the company strongly encourages telecom companies to avoid the wasteful use of network resources, while embracing the utilization of traffic management strategies such as Dynamic Load Balancing and the compression of video downloads.
Net Optics currently provides some of the world's top telecommunication companies with real-time visibility of 3G and 4G wireless traffic for quality-of-service (QoS) monitoring and billing, all without disrupting the network.
