Let my1voice Virtual Receptionist be the Voice of Your Company

One of the main reasons small businesses are flocking to virtual phone services such as my1voice is to help their companies take on a more professional first impression. Let’s face it – hearing the CEO answer the phone tends to conjure up the image of someone working from home in his or her bathrobe rather than an experienced professional with the kind of resources required to handle your business.

But, having the ability to add a custom greeting or on-hold message is only one part of the equation. You still have to have someone record it. It probably shouldn’t be the CEO, since that would essentially defeat the purpose. Putting the CEO’s voice on there would probably make it sound like he or she made a recording while wearing the bathrobe. (Unless you’re a very large business, in which case having the CEO do the phone system greeting would be kind of cool in a “man of the people” sort of way. Imagine hearing Warren Buffet’s voice answer the phone when you call Berkshire Hathaway.)

So who do you use? As part of the my1voice virtual receptionist service you can benefit from the my1voice offer of having a professional voice talent record a customer-written greeting at no charge. Or you can find someone on your own. If you want to do the latter, here’s an idea.

Everybody knows at least one person who was really into theater or radio or some type of performing at some point in their lives. Why not enlist that person to be the Voice of your company?

Take your brother-in-law Mike with the big, booming voice that makes every conversation sound like he’s announcing a football game. Have him do the greeting, the virtual receptionist auto-attendant message and the on-hold message. If a more soothing voice fits your business better ask your friend Debbie, who performs in community theater, to record something for you. She’ll probably be thrilled to do it and flattered that you asked. You can “pay” her by inviting her out to lunch or dinner. I know my friends can be bought that easily!

If one of your staff members is interested (and capable), have him or her do it. It will be fun for that person and probably a bit of an ego/morale booster as well. You can even introduce him or her at meetings and company gatherings as the Voice of your company.

The old saying “you never get a second chance to make a first impression” is as true as ever. Make sure you’re making a good one by putting the right voice onto your small business greeting, Auto Attendant, and on-hold message.
