BlackBerry Secures NATO Communications

The world lives in a reality today where global events, such as the ongoing War in Ukraine, continue to destabilize the world order. Combined with increasingly more complex and frequent cyber attacks, these events place an emphasis on securing voice and messaging communications among government officials and military personnel from potential eavesdroppers wanting to find out confidential information.

NATO is a supporter of communication between its members but, naturally, it wants to maintain confidentiality in its communications. To do that, the NATO Communications and Information Agency awarded security accreditation to BlackBerry's SecuSUITE for Government for global use in official NATO secure communications.

"Recent world events have emphasized the importance of watertight communications security,” said Christoph Erdmann, senior vice president of Secusmart at BlackBerry. “Information in the wrong hands can be dynamite, and the NATO alliance is keenly aware of how important it is to secure their mobile communication flows to protect its people and operations.”

SecuSUITE for Government technology protects more than 20 countries against electronic eavesdropping. SecuSUITE allows military personnel to exchange fully secure voice and messaging with other mobile devices. It also supports fully encrypted voice calls out of any foreign network back to the caller’s home network. These calls are typically prone to man-in-the-middle attacks.

With SecuSUITE, diplomatic staff can use their smartphones knowing that their voice and messaging exchanges are protected with end-to-end encryption. SecuSUITE also allows government personnel to protect all official voice and messaging exchanges from being hacked.

"Security is imperative in times of peace and conflict, and we need to be confident that calls and messages sent within the NATO alliance remain completely confidential at all times,” said Jean-Paul Massart, chief NATO digital workplace at NCI Agency.

BlackBerry SecuSUITE will enable NATO teams, no matter their location, to securely use their smartphones inside and outside of the network.
