Connexion Technologies to Use BitBand's IPTV Solutions

By Patrick Barnard, Senior Web Editor, TMCnet

Connexion Technologies, which builds FTTH networks for multi-dwelling residences and communities in the U.S., will now be using BitBand’s IPTV video servers to deliver high quality on-demand digital television services.

BitBand's Vision family of rack-mountable IPTV (News - Alert) servers includes the Vision 280, Vision 680 II and the Vision 880. Each offers on-demand, multicast, TV-on-Demand (TVOD) stream recording; support for the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 codecs (and thus can deliver HDTV); “zero maintenance and minimal administration;” “always on” broadcast-grade reliability; virtually unlimited scalability and unique distributed cluster architecture; support for industry standard media formats; and management via SNMP and the BitBand Maestro IPTV platform.

Meanwhile, BitBand's Maestro platform allows service providers to manage large, geographically distributed networks of servers via a single interface (or from multiple offices). Maestro also interfaces to other service provider systems such as billing, authentication, content asset management, etc., and offers advanced automation of IPTV services. The combined hardware/software solution is known as the BitBand Video Delivery System (VDS). Optimized for hybrid and distributed network architectures, it is ideal for service providers seeking to deliver IPTV as part of a “triple play” package of services. With its extreme scalability, this solution can be used for single small deployments -- or larger, multi-location deployments.

The agreement with Connexion further expands BitBand's footprint in the U.S. and will help Connexion continue to grow in the burgeoning FTTH multimedia services market.

"As our lifestyles change along with advancements in technology, our aim is to offer home owners and residences the best of breed telecommunications and media infrastructure," said Tolga Erkmen, VP of Product Planning for Connexion Technologies, in a press release. "We selected BitBand's field-proven technology to achieve rapid implementation of on-demand IPTV service infrastructure to meet our distributed infrastructure requirements."

"FTTH networks enable the deployment of TV, Internet and telephony services over a single high capacity network that can easily accommodate high volume transmission of content. This caters to the subscribers' increasing large-content consumption habits and also enhances the quality of their interactive TV experience," added Nati Lavi, vice president, US operations, BitBand Inc. "We predict a growing demand and adoption of this FTTH solution developed with Connexion Technologies and look forward to continuing our work with Connexion Technologies as they roll out advanced TV services throughout the U.S."

Connexion Technologies designs, installs and operates its FTTH networks and thus provides a “one-stop-shop” for real estate developers and communities. Utilizing BitBand's solution allows Connexion to immediately deploy on-demand IPTV applications and business models.

Connexion Technologies made news on TMCnet earlier this month when it announced that it had appointed John Mueller, a telecommunications industry veteran, as its new CEO, and Peter Ley, a former Bank of America executive, as its new CFO.

Meanwhile, BitBand made news on TMCnet this month when it announced that it had teamed up with Sagem Communications (SAFRAN Group) and Orca Interactive (News - Alert) Ltd. to deliver a first-class end-to-end IPTV solution to Union Electrica S.A., a service provider in Colombia.
