A Q&A with Comverse Converged IP Communications' Erik Larsson

By Greg Galitzine, Group Editorial Director

IP Convergence TV is a new Web site dedicated to providing high-value, strategic content in the area of IP communications, Fixed Mobile Convergence (News - Alert), and IPTV for decision makers and industry influencers.
It is a non-profit, industry-wide initiative supported by a charter group of community partners all actively involved in complementary aspects of IP Convergence.
TMCnet recently spoke to Erik Larsson, Vice President of Marketing for Comverse Converged IP Communications, who is one of the partners that supports the project. We asked him to tell us more about IP Convergence TV (News - Alert).
TMCnet: What are the objectives of IP Convergence TV? Why was it created?
EL: IP convergence is a complex and huge topic that encompasses many different environments and technologies. A huge amount of information is freely available and opinions can vary depending on perspective. So it can be difficult to build a clear picture of what IP convergence really represents.
The IP Convergence TV Web site was launched on October 25th with the aim of helping service providers and industry professionals to better understand the IP convergence opportunity and develop successful roadmaps and service offerings in this rapidly evolving market.
IP Convergence TV includes latest information on trends and issues in IP convergence, and enables visitors to shape their own views and expertise thanks to industry analysis, thought leadership, opinion pieces and best practices guidance.
The information is available in the form of video interviews, opinion pieces, articles, white papers, podcasts and webinars.
TMCnet: What kind of content will visitors find on the website?
EL: The Web site addresses both wireline and mobile markets, and covers the full range of multimedia IP communications, including IP Telephony, Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), Triple Play, Quad Play, IPTV (News - Alert), and IMS applications.
Content comes from many sources, including service providers, opinion makers, analysts, convergence gurus and Web site partners. Video interviews with industry leaders and personalities enable visitors to hear a wide variety of views on convergence and to share individual experiences of service deployment. The Web site also centralizes information on recent market research and lists relevant industry events.
TMCnet: With so many sources of information, how is the Web site content managed and who decides what should be published?
EL: To ensure the quality and consistency of the Web site content, Jon Arnold (News - Alert), an independent industry analyst and Principal of J Arnold & Associates, serves as Community Advocate and Portal Editor of IP Convergence TV.
Jon has been working in the communications industry for many years and has an in-depth knowledge of the market. He collects information for the website from many sources and also reviews content that is sent in for publication.
TMCnet: Who is behind the Web site?
EL: IP Convergence TV is supported by a charter group of community partners who are all actively involved in complementary aspects of IP Convergence. The project is an industry-wide, non-profit initiative and is currently backed by the following companies: AudioCodes, BEA, BitBand, Blueslice (News - Alert), Cicero, Comverse, Intel, Tilgin, and Verimatrix.
TMCnet: There are a number of Web sites already offering information on next-generation technologies and services. What makes IP Convergence TV different?
EL: As a non-profit resource, IP Convergence TV brings clarity and real value to a space that needs a unifying voice. IP Convergence TV is highly focused; it is the first online information source dedicated to the aggregation and dissemination of information on IP communications, Fixed Mobile Convergence, and IPTV.
IP Convergence TV is also about community and shared interests. Our mission is to create a focal point for service providers and key industry influencers and I believe that the Web site will be a particularly useful resource for technical and strategic decision makers actively engaged in using convergence technologies to bring new services to market. It is a new approach that makes IP Convergence TV a unique destination. The benefit to the community will only grow as more partners join the project, contribute content and initiate debates.
